Before Your Session:
It is preferable that you book your newborn session while you are still pregnant – but don’t hesitate to contact me if your little one is already here. (Baby’s 1st year sessions should be scheduled 3 to 4 weeks before your desired session date.) Its best to schedule as early as possible (2nd and 3rd trimester) so that I can guarantee a spot for you. If you will be having a scheduled C-section or induction, we can go ahead and set your definite session date/time. If not, I will “pencil in” your due date, knowing that little ones have a mind of their own and will come when they are good and ready. 🙂 Once your little one has arrived, we can then set the official date/time. (Hint: You can always have Dad or Grandma call me once the baby is here and set up the appointment for you while you are resting.)
The ideal time to photograph your newborn is when they are 5 – 16 days old. At this age, they allow me to get those super sleepy, curled up shots that we all love. After two weeks of age, babies tend to be more alert, harder to settle, and may begin to develop baby acne. If you’ve discovered newborn photography after the first 2 weeks of your little ones life and would still like to have some pictures taken, I can definitely still accomodate you. 🙂
Before your session, I will send you an email with some “prep” information for your session. This guide will have important information on getting yourself and your little one ready for his/her session.
During Your Session:
A typical newborn session will last between 2 and 3 hours, allowing plenty of time for feeding, changing, and comforting. I know new moms and dads are sleep-deprived so feel free to sit back, relax, and even take a little nap while I am photographing your little one. 🙂 All sessions are done at my studio which gives me access to my full collection of props, backdrops, and accessories. I keep the room nice and toasty for the baby’s comfort and usually have white noise or music playing during the session to help aid with the sleepiness. I will include multiple backdrop and prop options for your session, as well as hats, headbands, wraps, etc. If you have any props that you would like to include in the pictures, please feel free to bring them.
After Your Session:
I will have your final hand-edited images ready to view 7-10 days after your session. You may choose to have an in-person ordering session (complete with slideshow and printed proofs to look through) or you may view your images online. I would highly recommend an in-person ordering session so that I am able to show you the different print and product options available for purchase. Also, I have many different sized wall portraits and gallery wraps to help you visualize how an image will look hanging in your nursery or living room. Orders will take 2 to 3 weeks to be completed.
